Origin and history

The former hospital of Montmorillon, dated from the 19th century, is a historical monument located in the commune of Montmorillon, New Aquitaine. This site, whose buildings and gardens are fully protected, was registered by ministerial decree on 27 March 2024. It is now owned by the community of local municipalities, suggesting a heritage and collective vocation.

The location of the hospital is specified in the Mérimée base at Place Régine Deforges, although GPS coordinates also indicate a nearby address at 13bis Rue Henri Dunant. These differences may reflect urban developments or administrative corrections. The monument, marked by its architecture and landscape integration, illustrates the importance of health infrastructure in the 19th century in small French cities.

The classification of the old hospital includes not only buildings, but also gardens, highlighting their historical and aesthetic value. These spaces, which appear in the cadastre under plots AD 574, 575 and 578, are evidence of a global conception where care and environment were linked.
