Origin and history
The former Imperial Hotel, located 9 avenue de la Madonna in Menton (Alpes-Maritimes), is a building built during the 1st quarter of the 20th century. This building, registered with the Monuments Historiques by order of 14 June 2021, is distinguished by its architecture and its integration into a park, reflecting the prestige of the seaside establishments of the Belle Époque on the French Riviera. The protected elements include facades, roofs, the entrance hall with its staircase, as well as the cage of the large staircase and its bearings, bearing a preserved architectural heritage.
The location of the hotel, between Avenue de la Madone and Avenue Gaspard Médecin, highlights its anchoring in the urban landscape of Menton. At that time, Menton, a popular climate station and tourist destination, attracted a well-equipped European clientele, especially British and Russian. Luxury hotels like Imperial then play a central role in the local economy, symbolizing both the cultural influence of the French Riviera and the social changes associated with seaside tourism.
The partial inscription of the monument in 2021 specifically covers interior and exterior spaces, including the common parts of the ground floor, the designated park, and a northern outbuilding. This late protection illustrates a recent heritage recognition, highlighting the historic and aesthetic value of the building. No information is available on its current access (visits, rental, accommodation), or on any owners or architects associated with its construction.
