Origin and history

The former Hotel Le Charron, also known as Hotel de Vitry, was built between 1637 and 1640 on the Île Saint-Louis in Paris. Commanded by Jean Charron, treasurer general of the Extraordinary War in Picardia, it was designed by architect Sébastien Bruand, father of Liberal Bruand. This building illustrates the 17th century Parisian hotel architecture, with neat interior decorations, including French-style ceilings decorated with paintings from the late 17th or early 18th century.

In the 19th century, the hotel became a place of artistic creation: painters Ernest Meissonnier and Émile Bernard set up their workshops there. These spaces, still marked by their passage, bear witness to the sustainable cultural vocation of the place. Ranked Historic Monument in 1988, the hotel is fully protected, including its interior decorations, highlighting its heritage importance.

Located at the 13-15 quai de Bourbon in the 4th arrondissement, the hotel embodies both the fascist of the Ancien Régime and the artistic posterity of Paris. Its architecture, attributed to a recognized master, and its history linked to major figures in painting make it a jewel of Île Saint-Louis, despite a GPS location deemed a priori satisfactory (note 6/10).
