Origin and history
The ancient Presbytery of Sers, classified as Historic Monument, dates from the 4th quarter of the 17th century or the 1st quarter of the 18th century. This building is distinguished by a monumental door consisting of three arches in the middle of the hanger, framed by two doric pilasters. These architectural elements support an entanglement decorated with triglyphs, surmounted by a curved pediment adorned with a shield with two crossed keys, symbol often associated with the Church.
The location of this presbytery, at 5020 Church Square in Sers (Charente), reflects its central role in the community life of the time. The presbyteries then served as a residence for priests and as a place of management of parish affairs, in a rural context where the Church structured social and spiritual life. The region, then integrated into the Poitou-Charentes, was marked by an agricultural economy and local traditions strongly influenced by the clergy.
The building, now owned by the commune, preserves traces of its past through architectural details such as pilasters and pediment. Although the sources do not specify its current use (visits, rentals, etc.), its status as a Historical Monument makes it an important testimony to the religious and civil heritage of New Aquitaine. The accuracy of its location is estimated as "passable" (note 5/10), based on available data.
