Origin and history

The former parish church Notre-Dame de la Jayère, located in Saint-Antoine-l'Abbaye en Isère, is an emblematic medieval monument. It represents the only remaining testimony of parish churches built around the Abbey of Saint Anthony during this period. Its architecture, partly Romanesque, includes a bedside and elements of the twelfth century, although reshuffles took place in the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries.

The building, classified as Historic Monument since 2004, retains traces of its original construction, especially in the eastern part of the south wall and probably in the west façade. These characteristics make it a rare example of the architectural evolution of rural churches between the 12th and 16th centuries. The church's location, close to the abbey, highlights its role in the religious and community life of the region.

Today, the church belongs to the commune of Saint-Antoine-l'Abbaye. Although its state of conservation and accessibility are not specified, its listing as Historic Monuments guarantees the protection of this medieval heritage. Available sources, such as the Merimée base, confirm its historical and architectural importance in the religious landscape of Isère.
