Porche and wall-pignon in which he is placed: classification by decree of 19 May 1928

Origin and history

The ancient church of Saint Peter, located in Lindois (Charente, Nouvelle-Aquitaine), dates from the 14th century. Classified as a Historic Monument by decree of 19 May 1928, it collapsed in part at the beginning of the 20th century, leaving only its entrance porch and the gable wall that surrounds it. These elements, now protected, testify to local medieval religious architecture.

The porch and gable wall, the only preserved remains, were classified for their heritage value. The exact location of the site, near the village of Le Lindois (Insee code 16188), remains approximate according to available sources, with a cartographic accuracy deemed "passable". The building belonged to the commune and its current use (visit, rental) is not specified in the archives.

Historical data comes mainly from the Merimée database and the Monumentum platform. A photo licensed by Creative Commons, credited to Jack Ma, illustrates the remains of the church. No additional information is available on the causes of the collapse, any restorations or previous uses of the site prior to its degradation.
