Origin and history
The former Hall of Aramon, located on the Plagnet Square, was built in 1766 to replace an old building that was used as a butcher's and d'écorchery, then threatened with ruin. This building, characterized by a facade surmounted by a triangular pediment and decorated with pots of fire, embodies the 18th century utility architecture. Its split-angle links, two doors and three low arch windows reflect a sober but functional design, adapted to the commercial needs of the time.
This monument, the last witness to historical market activity in Aramon, illustrates the importance of the halls as a central exchange point in Occitan villages. Its inscription in the Historic Monuments in 1984 (for its facades and roofs) underscores its heritage value, although its current location is considered mediocre (level 5/10 precision). A communal property, it also symbolizes the transition between the old craft structures and the sustainable public buildings of the Enlightenment century.
The Mérimée base specifies its administrative address to 2 Cours Victor Hugo, confirming its anchoring in the city centre. Although the sources do not mention its current use (visit, rental, etc.), its protected status guarantees the preservation of this heritage, silent witness to the commercial and social practices of Aramon under the Old Regime.
