Origin and history
The former house at 6 Church Street in Kergrist-Moëlou is a building dated the 2nd quarter of the 17th century. This building, inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 8 March 2024, is distinguished by its main house body including a tower, as well as by a well located in the courtyard. These elements, listed in the cadastre under plots A no.552, 644 and 908, illustrate a preserved rural architecture, characteristic of inland Brittany.
The location of this monument, in the village of Kergrist-Moëlou (Côtes-d'Armor), reflects the organisation of the Breton villages of the modern era. The houses of this period often served as homes for peasant families or local notables, playing a central role in community life. Their preservation today offers a material testimony of 17th century lifestyles and construction techniques in Brittany.
The recent (2024) listing of this house as a Historic Monument underscores its heritage value, both for its architecture and its integrity. The protected elements, such as the tower and the well, highlight functional and symbolic aspects of the Breton houses of the Ancien Régime. The accuracy of its location, noted as "passible" (5/10), indicates an approximate knowledge of its exact location, without altering its historical interest.
