Origin and history

The former house Clément, located at 26 Grande Street in Moret-sur-Loing (now Moret-Loing-et-Orvanne), is a neo-Gothic building built in 1908 by architect Paul-Joseph Clément for his family. The interior wood decoration, carved by Pierre Raccolet, was completed around 1931. This building reflects the influence of early twentieth century artistic currents, mixing medieval tradition and architectural modernity.

Acquired by the commune in 1948, the house was transformed into a town hall, becoming a symbol of local heritage. Its inscription in historic monuments by decree of 9 August 1990 enshrines its heritage value, both for its style and its history related to municipal life. The protection concerns the entire building (Cadastre AH 23), today public property.

The building is part of an urban context marked by the merger of the municipalities (Moret-sur-Loing and Orvanne in 2015), in the Seine-et-Marne department. Its architecture, typical of the bourgeois residences of the period, also bears witness to the collaborations between local artisans, such as the sculptor Raccolet, and masters of work such as Clement, a major figure in regional urban planning.
