Origin and history

The old Lefèbvre printing works and the Broult-Dividis bookshop, located in Dreux, were built in the early twentieth century on a partially built site. In 1902, the architect Eugène-Edouard Avard supervised the works, assisted by the carpenter cabinetist Joseph Cadio and the entrepreneur Biziau. These transformations retain traces of a companion's house from the sixteenth or seventeenth centuries, but today only the carved wooden front of the printing house and the façade of the building rise up the window.

The development of the Broult-Dividis bookshop, probably carried out around 1907, seems to be attributable to the same professionals. The building, registered with the Historical Monuments in 1997 for its facades and roofs, bears witness to the local craftsmanship and the evolution of urban shops at the turn of the century. The protected elements include the front and front, characteristic of the architectural style of the period.

The site, located at 7-9 Grande Rue Maurice-Violette, reflects a period of urban modernization in Dreux, where printing and bookshops played a central role in cultural dissemination. The work of Avard, combining rehabilitation and creation, illustrates the challenges of integrating ancient heritage into contemporary projects. The accuracy of its location, however, remains poor, with a score of 5/10 depending on available sources.
