Origin and history
The ancient settlement of the Gua, or the Ga, is an archaeological site located in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of the Isère department. Although we have discovered some teeth from the final bronze age, they do not confirm a continuous occupation from that time. The site reveals above all an intense occupation between the first and third centuries of our era, with possible reoccupation in medieval times.
Gallo-Roman remains suggest two main hypotheses: that of an industrial establishment, supported by complex hydraulic installations, or that of a small agglomeration. The archaeological material found, abundant for the first three centuries, attests to significant human activity. The site was listed as a Historic Monument by order of 19 September 1989, thus protecting its remains located at Cadastre D 435.
The location of the site, although known (2 Rue du Ga, L-Isle-d-Abeau), is considered to be of poor accuracy (level 5 of 10). No information is available on its current accessibility to the public, whether it be visits, room rental or accommodation. Available sources, such as the Monumentum database, do not provide more details on its contemporary use.
