Ancient wharf and all archaeological remains still buried, known or to be discovered, included in plots AC 1 to 5, excluding the house and two barns: inscription by order of 20 September 1993
Origin and history
The ancient quay of Azier, located in the municipality of the same name in the department of Eure (region Normandy), is an archaeological vestige whose exact nature and period of construction are not specified in the available sources. This monument has been officially protected since 1993, covering not only the visible remains, but also all the elements still buried or to be discovered on the plots concerned. However, the listing of Historic Monuments excludes modern buildings on the site, such as a house and two barns.
The location of the site, noted as "a priori satisfactory" (level 7/10), places these remains near the Route des Chaumières, in a rural setting characteristic of this part of Normandy. Although historical details are lacking, this type of ancient wharf usually suggests an activity related to river navigation or trade in Antiquity or the Middle Ages, when waterways played a central role in regional exchanges. Legal protections aim to preserve these traces for future archaeological studies.
