Tour d'Andelot : inscription by order of 4 October 1932

Origin and history

The Andelot tower of Salins-les-Bains is an emblematic monument of the city, built in the 14th century. It is located in the Jura department, in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region, and forms part of the medieval architectural heritage of the commune. Its inscription as a Historical Monument by order of 4 October 1932 bears witness to its historical and cultural importance.

Salins-les-Bains, a spa and medieval town, was a strategic place in the Middle Ages, thanks in particular to its salines which played a major economic role. Towers such as Andelot's often served as defence or surveillance points, reflecting the social and military organization of the time. These buildings were essential to protect local resources and residents.

The tower of Andelot is today a vestige of this period, and although its exact use is not detailed in the available sources, its inscription under the title of Historical Monuments in 1932 ensures its preservation. It is located precisely at 9007 Rue des Coteaux, according to the GPS coordinates available, and remains a point of interest for visitors interested in the medieval history of the region.
