Origin and history
The old farm of the Marquisat de Nointel, located in the eponymous village of Hauts-de-France, is an architectural testimony of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Rebuilt largely between 1750 and 1770, it was inspired by the agronomic models of the Physiocrats, an economic movement promoting the modernization of agriculture. This current, which was influential during the reign of Louis XV, was intended to rationalize farms to increase their productivity, which is reflected in the organization and construction techniques of the farm.
The farm has retained several remarkable elements of its past, including a monumental stone gate and a 17th-century grain barn, built of stone and stone. The farm house, built in the same materials and covered with a chamotte coating (mixture of lime and crushed brick), includes an independent supply, typical of the farms of the time. The dovecote, with its rotating ladder and torch bolts, as well as a well with a margin decorated with interlaces, complete this preserved ensemble.
In 1844, the farm was divided into three lots, but its emblematic buildings remained. Some elements, such as the 18th-century barn, the gate, the house, the supply house, the dovecote and the well, have been protected by an order of inscription to the Historical Monuments since 19 March 1992. Their state of conservation allows us to study the agricultural and architectural practices of past centuries, as well as the evolution of the marquisats in Picardie.
The location of the farm, near the town hall square of Nointel (15 Place de la Mairie), and its address referenced in the Mérimée base underline its anchoring in the local heritage. Although the practical information on current visits or uses is not detailed, its heritage inscription makes it a site of interest for the rural history of Hauts-de-France.
