Origin and history
The Jean Bartherot Arenas, located in Estang, Occitanie, were built between 1901 and 1928. This monument, with a capacity of 2,000 seats, is distinguished by its wooden frame painted in red "beef blood". It embodies an ethnological heritage linked to regional Tauromachi practice, reflecting the cultural importance of the Landes race and the Taurin shows in the south-west of France at the beginning of the twentieth century.
Classified Historic Monument by decree of 15 November 1993, these arenas belong to the municipality of Estang. Their architecture and use illustrate a period when arenas played a central role in the social and festive life of Occitan villages. Approximate location and limited cartographic accuracy (level 5/10) underline their anchoring in a rural territory, where the Tauromachi traditions still persist today.
The mention of the Creative Commons license for the associated photo and mailing address (5107 Arenes Jean Bartherot, 32240 Estang) confirms their status as an accessible historic place, although information on their current opening or use (rent, visits) is not specified in available sources. Their protection as a cadastral element (AC 163) reinforces their historical and cultural value for the Midi-Pyrénées region, now integrated into Occitanie.
