Parcel containing archaeological remains (Box A 406): classification by decree of 28 August 1964

Origin and history

The archaeological remains of Montferrand are located on the northern limit of the cemetery of Saint-Pierre, in the commune of Montferrand, in the department of Aude, in the Occitanie region. These vestiges, dating from the High Middle Ages, include thermal baths and two Paleo-Christian churches, making it a remarkable ensemble outside the great ancient urban centres. Their presence attests to the religious and social importance of this site during this period.

Classified as historical monuments by order of 28 August 1964, these remains are protected for their archaeological and heritage value. Their precise location is indicated as being on Parcel A 406 near the Chemin des Tunisses. Although their state of conservation and accessibility are not detailed, their ranking highlights their interest in the study of local and regional history.

The site is referenced in the Mérimée and Monumentum bases, with administrative information associated with the Insee 11243 code for the municipality of Montferrand. Available data comes mainly from sources such as Wikipedia and Monumentum, supplemented by photographic references under Creative Commons license. These vestiges provide an overview of the religious and thermal practices of the time, in a rural context far from the major urban poles.
