Origin and history
The Raspail pharmaceutical factory in Arcueil is an emblematic industrial monument of the second half of the 19th century. Located in the city of Arcueil, Île-de-France, it embodies the evolution of pharmaceutical techniques and the increasing industrialization of this period. This type of establishment played a key role in the production of medicines and chemicals, meeting the needs of a society undergoing medical and scientific transformation.
At that time, the Paris region, and more broadly Île-de-France, was a home of industrial and scientific innovation. Plants such as Raspail were actively involved in the modernization of pharmaceutical practices, while contributing to local economic development. These sites attracted skilled labour and encouraged the emergence of new working-class neighbourhoods, reflecting the social and urban changes of the late 19th century.
