Origin and history
The Au Soleil d-Or Inn, located on the 27th road from Lyon to Fegersheim (Bas-Rhin), is an emblematic building of the first quarter of the 18th century. Ranked a historic monument since 2000, it is distinguished by its facades, its exterior and interior staircases (to balusters), as well as its roof, protected by decree. The building faces the former postmaster's residence at 46 of the same road, highlighting its historic role in the Alsatian communication network.
Originally, the inn belonged to the Hansmaennel family until 1827, when it served as a relay for travellers and merchants on the Lyon road. Today, it houses the communal media library "La CLEF", a medical laboratory, and a multipurpose room in the basement, preserving architectural elements of the period like stone pillars and tunnels. These modern amenities coexist with heritage, illustrating a successful rehabilitation.
The inscription to the historical monuments in 2000 preserved remarkable architectural details, such as the interior staircase and the exterior stairs. The property, now communal, reflects the evolution of the uses of historic buildings in Alsace, moving from a hotel and postal function to a cultural and administrative place. The accuracy of its location (valued at 6/10) and its official address in the Merimée base confirm its anchoring in the local heritage.
