Facades and roofs: inscription by decree of 28 December 1928
Origin and history
The Coq-Hardi inn is an emblematic building of Blangy-le-Château, in Calvados, dating from the 16th century. Built in typical Norman style, with half-timbers, torchis and lime, it is distinguished by its moulded sandstone, characteristic of the era. This building, one of the oldest in the commune, served as a post office post before becoming a renowned inn, active during the French Revolution until 1936.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the hostel was a gathering place for local farmers, marking its social and economic importance in the region. Its facades and roof were protected by a decree of 28 December 1928, recognizing its heritage value. Today, the building bears witness to the traditional Norman architecture and the history of road trade in Lower Normandy.
Located in Place de Verdun in Blaggy-le-Château, the inn also illustrates the evolution of the uses of historic buildings, moving from post office to conviviality, before being preserved as a monument. Its inscription in the Historic Monuments makes it a symbol of local heritage, drawing attention to medieval construction techniques and their sustainability.
