The front and interior decoration: inscription by order of 23 May 1984
Origin and history
The bakery-pastry-confectionery located at 24 rue du Commerce, in the 15th arrondissement of Paris, was installed around 1920. This historic monument is distinguished by its typical commercial architecture from the early twentieth century. The front, decorated with a gilded letter band and a marble base, reflects the elegance of the Parisian signs of the time. Inside, the painted ceiling, representing an animated sky of flowers and butterflies, as well as the original marble furniture, bear witness to craftsmanship and a marked aesthetic concern.
The store was restored in 1985 to preserve its original elements. The front and interior decoration were protected by a registration order under the Historic Monuments on 23 May 1984. This ranking underscores the heritage value of this trade, representative of the Parisian boutiques of the first quarter of the 20th century, where craft and design combined to create functional and aesthetic spaces.
The location of this monument, in the 15th arrondissement, an expanding area at the beginning of the 20th century, illustrates the importance of mouth shops in Parisian everyday life. These institutions, often family, played a central role in street animation and local sociability. Their preservation today offers a tangible testimony to the urban and artisanal history of Paris.
