Origin and history

The bakery located at 153 rue de la Roquette in the 11th arrondissement of Paris is an architectural and artistic testimony of the first half of the 20th century. This business, which is still active, is distinguished by its frontage, which has been listed as a Historic Monument since 1984. The decorative elements, typical of the period, reflect the importance attached to the aesthetics of public and artisanal places in the Paris of the Folle Years.

In 1925, the decorator of Italian origin Renato Panzani made the paintings fixed under glass adorning the inside of the bakery. These works, representative of his style, illustrate landscapes associated with wheat, a classic theme for this type of establishment. This artistic choice highlights the link between baker craftsmanship and agricultural symbolism, while incorporating a touch of elegance unique to the decorative art of the 1920s.

The protection of the front by ministerial decree in 1984 bears witness to the heritage recognition of this place. Although the precise location is considered mediocre (note of 5/10), the official address, 153 rue de la Roquette, remains a landmark for lovers of architecture and local history. This monument thus illustrates the preservation of Parisian artisanal heritage, often unknown but essential to collective memory.
