Origin and history
The Bastide Bel-Air is an emblematic construction of the second half of the eighteenth century, located on the path of the Platanes, in the north of Aix-en-Provence. This monument illustrates the bourgeois residential architecture of the region, with a main building with neat facades and roofs, complemented by a French-style garden decorated with carved elements. These characteristics reflect the taste of the era for the harmony between nature and habitat, typical of Provencal bastides.
The building was partially protected as historical monuments in 1980. The facades, the roofs, and the garden were inscribed, while the living room and dining room, remarkable for their wallpaper and fireplaces, were classified. These distinctions highlight the heritage value of the whole, both for its exterior architecture and its interior design.
The Bastide Bel-Air is today a private property, located in the Bouches-du-Rhône department (code Insee 13001).
