Origin and history

The blower building, located in Decazeville in the department of Aveyron (Occitanie region), is an industrial monument built during the first quarter of the twentieth century. This site, registered in the inventory of Historic Monuments by order of 17 December 2019, includes the entire building, including its basement, as well as all associated technical facilities. It is located precisely on the avenue of August 10, in an area marked by the industrial history of the city.

Decazeville, a town in the Aveyron mining and industrial basin, experienced an economic boom associated with coal mining and metallurgy in the early 20th century. The blower building is part of this, illustrating the importance of technical infrastructure for local industrial activities. These facilities, now protected, bear witness to the engineering and know-how of the time, while reflecting the central role of industry in the social and economic organization of the region.

The protection of the site, including the building and its technical equipment, underscores its heritage and historical value. Owned by the municipality, it is located in an urban environment marked by other industrial remains, as evidenced by its address at the heart of the industrial site of the city centre. The accuracy of its location, assessed as 'a priori satisfactory', allows us to envisage studies or visits to better understand its functioning and its impact on local development.
