Origin and history
The Hôpital des Baux-de-Provence is a historical monument located in the commune of Baux-de-Provence, in the department of Bouches-du-Rhône (region Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur). Ranked by ministerial decree in 1904, today only remains of this former establishment, whose exact location is approximate (28 Rue du Trencat). The accuracy of its location is considered poor, with a score of 5 out of 10 based on available data.
Medieval or Old Regime hospitals played a central role in Provencal villages, providing care to the poor, pilgrims or sick. In communes such as Les Baux-de-Provence, marked by feudal history and rural economy, these structures reflected both religious charity and community organization. Their management was often linked to local lords or ecclesiastical institutions, although the archives specific to this hospital remain fragmented.
