Cemetery Cross: Registration by Order of 18 November 1926

Origin and history

The Cross of the Mayrègne Cemetery is a monument located in the village of the same name, in Haute-Garonne, in the Occitanie region. This monument, of a cross type, is typical of religious or memorial buildings that are found in the cemeteries of many French communes. Its inclusion in the inventory of Historic Monuments in 1926 demonstrates its local heritage importance, although details of its construction or its specific history remain little documented in available sources.

In Occitan villages, the cemetery crosses often played a central role in religious and social practices. They marked a sacred place, serving as a gathering point for funeral ceremonies and prayers. In Mayrègne, as in other rural communes, these monuments also reflected the community organization around the parish and Christian traditions.

Their presence symbolized divine protection over the deceased and the community.
