Ferme, including its enclosure delimited by the buildings (Case C 688) : inscription by order of 7 April 1994
Origin and history
The Bel-Air farm, located in Creissels in the Aveyron department, illustrates the traditional architecture of the Larzac farms. Its buildings, arranged in U around a rectangular courtyard, are entirely arched. Two porches allow access: one towards housing buildings, the other towards sheepfolds. The main house retains original elements such as a vegetable garden, a large fireplace, a pavement and a bread oven.
The farm is fed with rainwater thanks to a tank, and its sink is located in a stencil adjoining the large room. The wooden ceiling was replaced by a rockstone, while the chimney stumps are covered with shale. Classified as a historical monument by order of 7 April 1994, it also includes its enclosure bounded by the buildings.
This type of farm reflects the typical agricultural and domestic organization of Larzac, where living and working spaces were closely integrated. The preservation of its original elements makes it a valuable testimony to the rural architecture of Aveyron.
