Origin and history

The Mile of Bidoussanne, located on the town of Pélissanne in the Bouches-du-Rhône, is an archaeological vestige of Via Aurelia, a major Roman road linking Rome to Arles (Arelate). This terminal, also known as the Gigery terminal, marks a landmark on this historic axis, testifying to the ancient road organization.

The terminal was officially recognized for its heritage importance in 1941, when it was listed as historic monuments. Its precise location, south-east of Pélissanne on the way to Gigery, reflects its role in the Roman road network of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region.

Although little detail is available on its specific condition or inscriptions, this terminal is part of a wider set of similar remains in France, illustrating the lasting legacy of Roman engineering.
