Oratory of the Holy Trinity: inscription by decree of 1 December 1980
Origin and history
The Oratory of the Sainte-Trinité is a religious monument located in Bonneval-sur-Arc, in the department of Savoie, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Built in the 17th century, it embodies the architecture and local devotion of this period, marked by a strong Catholic influence in the Alps. Its inscription as a Historical Monument by order of 1 December 1980 bears witness to its heritage value and its preservation by the authorities.
In the 17th century, the oratories played a central role in the lives of Alpine communities, serving as places of prayer, gathering and spiritual landmarks for the inhabitants. Bonneval-sur-Arc, a village isolated in the high mountains, saw in these buildings a divine protection against the rigors of the climate and the dangers of life at altitude. These monuments also reflected the social and religious organization of the time, where the Church rhythmized daily life.
The Oratory of the Holy Trinity, owned by the municipality, is today a vestige of the past, although the practical information about its visit or access remains limited. Its location, noted as approximate (precision 5/10), suggests a position on the outskirts of the village, near the Pres Catin. Available sources, such as the Merimée and Monumentum database, confirm its protected status but do not provide additional details on its current use or detailed history.
