Flowered Bornes Nos. 34 and 35: by order of 24 April 1964
Origin and history
Rampillon flowermarks 34 and 35 are monuments located in the commune of Rampillon, Seine-et-Marne, Île-de-France region. These terminals, erected in the 19th century, probably marked boundaries or routes along National Highway 19. Their architectural style, adorned with lily flowers, evokes a royal or administrative heritage, typical of the road developments of that time.
Ranked as historical monuments since 24 April 1964, these terminals demonstrate the importance of road infrastructure under the Second Empire or the Third Republic. Their preservation illustrates the desire to retain heritage elements related to transport history and spatial planning. Their exact location, near the Hautes Bornes at La Croix-en-Brie, suggests a historical route of the RN19, now potentially modified.
Like other similar monuments, the flowered pillars served both as landmarks for travellers and as symbols of authority. Their decoration, inspired by the French royal coat of arms, recalls the continued influence of the monarchy in public achievements of the 19th century, even after the Revolution. Their classification in 1964 highlights their heritage value, both historically and artistically.
