Origin and history

The flowermark n°39 is an emblematic monument located in Vulaines-lès-Provins, in the Seine-et-Marne department, in the Île-de-France region. Built in the 19th century, it is precisely on National Highway 19. This type of terminal, decorated with lily flowers, was often used to mark royal or national roads, symbolizing the authority and presence of the state.

Ranked as a historical monument since 24 April 1964, this pillar reflects the importance attached to preserving the French road and historical heritage. The flower-like terminals, like this one, recall the organisation of communication networks under the monarchic or imperial regimes, while illustrating the evolution of infrastructures in France.

The location of this terminal in Vulaines-lès-Provins, a rural municipality near Provins, also reflects the role of roads in the economic and social development of the territories. These monuments, although discreet, are historical and cultural landmarks for local people and travellers.
