Origin and history

The Saint-Rémi terminals are white/grey limestone monoliths, characterized by a prominent face that probably carried coats of arms. They are located in the communes of Chilly and Tremblois-lès-Rocroi, in the department of Ardennes, on the border of the national road between Charleville and Hirson. Their precise location is estimated as "a priori satisfactory" according to the available data, with an approximate address at 5049 Chemin de Crevecoeur.

These borders date back to the Middle Ages and were likely used to delimit the boundaries of the Baronnie des Potées, a historical territorial entity. Their heritage value was recognized by a classification as historical monuments on 17 March 1931. Today, they are owned by the department of Ardennes and the municipality of Tremblois-lès-Rocroi.

No additional information is available on their specific use, sponsor or related historical events. Their preservation, however, demonstrates the importance of territorial marks under the Old Regime, where local lords used terminals to assert their authority over often disputed spaces.
