Origin and history

The boutique located at 34 rue des Ayres in Bordeaux is a remarkable historical monument for its front of the Directoire period, preserved despite its construction in the 19th century. His original design features a half-circle fan, topped by an angelic head or love with extended wings, framed by four cariatids without feet. These female figures, clothed in narrow sheaths down and placed on diamond feet, support a bone basket. The ensemble evokes a small triangular temple, crowned with a cornice on dice, illustrating the persistent neoclassical influence in the Bordeaux crafts of the time.

The front was protected by a registration order on 15 January 1962, highlighting its exceptional heritage value. The monument, although dated from the 19th century, perpetuates aesthetic codes of the Management Board (1795–99), the pivotal period between Revolution and Empire. Its exact address, confirmed by the Mérimée base, is located in the historical district of Bordeaux, Gironde (code Insee 33063). However, the accuracy of its geographical location is considered poor (note 5/10), without reliable GPS coordinates in available sources.

No information is provided on its current use (visit, trade, etc.), or on any owners or craftsmen who have contributed to its realization. The sources are limited to its architectural description and classification, without details of its social or economic history. The Creative Commons license of the associated photo (credit JeanWilhelm) suggests a contemporary documentary interest in this unknown heritage.
