Origin and history

The Bricqueboscq Manor House, located in Vesly, Normandy, is an emblematic construction of the first quarter of the 16th century. This body of rectangular houses, flanked by two corner towers, is distinguished by its mixture of massivity and architectural fantasy. One tower still houses an active dovecote, while the other once kept a chapel. In spite of the diversity of spans and levels, the ensemble creates a neat harmony, enriched with original decorative details such as chimneys, doors carved with arms and shields, or period ceilings.

Inside, the mansion preserved its original dispositions, offering an intact testimony of life under the Old Regime. The mud soil of the towers, the cellars, and the spatial organization reflect a farm in operation where up to twenty farm workers and their masters lived together before the Second World War. This architectural conservatory illustrates the social and economic symbiosis characteristic of Norman rural areas of the modern era.

Ranked Historic Monument in 2001, the mansion protects its facades, roofs, and remains of the west porch. Surrounded by still active commons, it embodies the transition between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, where local lords combined residential power and agricultural management. The accuracy of its geographical location remains poor (level 4), but its official address (50430 Vesly) clearly links it to the Department of the Manche and the Normandy region.
