Origin and history

The Bernard Bridges are two works of art located at the boundary of the municipalities of Breny and Armintes-sur-Ourcq, in the department of Aisne (Hauts-de-France). Built in the 17th and 18th century transition, they crossed Ourcq and formed a remarkable architectural complex, composed of two bridges close to each other in a preserved landscape. Their style and technical characteristics reflect the construction practices of their time, while illustrating an original adaptation to the relief of the valley.

These bridges, as well as the roadway linking them, were listed as historic monuments by order of 11 June 2001. Their protection highlights their heritage interest, both for their individual design and for their use as a duo, rare in the region.
