Origin and history

The Breuil-le-Sec fascinate bridges are a monument in the municipality of the same name, in the Hauts-de-France region. Their construction technique, based on bundles of interconnected gills, reflects traditional know-how often associated with wetlands or rapid and economic crossing needs. These structures, although poorly documented, illustrate the adaptation of local populations to geographical constraints and available resources.

In the Hauts-de-France, as in other regions, fascination bridges have been able to play an essential role in local exchanges, particularly in a rural context where permanent infrastructure was scarce. Their presence suggests a community organization focused on self-help and the use of natural materials. These works, often ephemeral, could also be used for agricultural or military purposes, depending on times and needs.
