Origin and history

Brives House, located on Rue d'Arboras in Clermont-l'Hérault, is a historical monument dating back to the 17th century. Although its facades have undergone major changes, two sill windows still remain on the west façade, reflecting its original architecture. The best preserved part remains the stair turret, located on a street façade, which rises on a square plane with a ground floor, four floors and a dovecote roof, covered with a single slope roof.

The entrance door, in oak, is a typical example of the local style, common in the regions of Saint-Ponais and Lodèvois. It consists of a rectangular part surmounted by a semi-circle, decorated with canned pilasters and ove capitals. The full arch of the door, topped by a relief shield without decor, is framed by ground impossions and a frieze adorned with five diglyphs, characteristic elements of the craft of the time.

The house Brives was partially classified as a Historical Monument by order of 16 March 1964, specifically protecting the door of the staircase turret, its vantail and the window above it. These elements, though modest, illustrate the civil architecture of Occitanie in the 17th century, marked by both local and classical influences.
