Sixteenth century fountain (not cadastralized; public domain): by order of 15 March 1909
Origin and history
The fountain of Rostrenen, built in the 16th century, is a typical example of a Renaissance-style devotional fountain. It is distinguished by its lower position than the ground level, accessible by two stairs of six steps. These stairs have a first narrow step, designed to prevent animals from passing through. The monument is decorated with a feminine bust and an inscription, framed by two columns surmounted by a pediment. A central channel evacuates the water overflow to a small square square with cut corners.
Classified as historical monuments by order of 15 March 1909, this fountain illustrates the importance of water points in the Breton towns of the Renaissance. Its architecture reflects both a practical function – water supply – and a symbolic dimension, linked to local devotional practices. The fountain is now the property of the commune of Rostrenen, in the Côtes-d的Armor department, in Brittany.
Le Bourg, where the fountain is located, corresponds to the historic heart of Rostrenen. The GPS coordinates available place the monument near Abbé Gibert Street, although the accuracy of this location is estimated to be mediocre (level 5/10). No information is available on its current accessibility or possible tourist functions (visits, rentals).
