Origin and history
The building located at 16 rue Saint-Sauveur, in the 2nd arrondissement of Paris, is a typical example of rent houses in the first half of the 18th century. Reconstructed in 1738 by the entrepreneur Buron, he retained a iron staircase inherited from the first construction, dated the previous century. This mix of styles reflects the urban transformations of the era, where buildings were often redesigned to meet growing rental needs in an expanding Paris.
The facades, roofs, the coachway, the paved courtyard and the two stairs with their ramps were inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 9 October 1996. This protection highlights characteristic architectural elements, such as 17th century ironwork, rare for a building of this period. The exact address, confirmed by the Merimée base and GPS coordinates, places this monument in the heart of a historic district, marked by a dense occupation since the Ancien Régime.
The entrepreneur Buron, responsible for the reconstruction in 1738, was the only contractor mentioned in the available sources. His intervention is part of a context in which Paris saw the increase of the buildings of relationship, destined for a rising bourgeoisie. The location, noted as "passable" (level 5/10) in the databases, suggests an approximation in the geographic surveys, without questioning the authenticity of the site. No information is available on any current use (visits, rentals, etc.).
