Façades and roofs on Rue Bonneterie and on the inner courtyard; box ceiling of the entrance porch; staircase with its wrought iron ramp; 18s lounge with its decor (cad. DL 337): registration by decree of 20 January 1976
Origin and history
The building located at 54 rue Bonneterie in Avignon is a monument classified among historical monuments. Its inscription by decree of 20 January 1976 protects several notable architectural elements: the facades and roofs overlooking Rue Bonneterie and the inner courtyard, the coffered ceiling of the entrance porch, as well as a staircase adorned with a wrought iron ramp. The 18th century living room, with its preserved decor, is a remarkable testimony of the art of living of that time.
The location of the building in the historic centre of Avignon reflects the urban and architectural importance of this city in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Although the sources do not specify its original use, this type of bourgeois building was often linked to local social and economic life, sheltering wealthy families or commercial activities. The protection of its interior and exterior elements underlines its heritage value, especially for its staircase and living room, characteristic of the aristocratic or bourgeois mansions of the eighteenth century.
