Origin and history

Café Le Napoléon, formerly known as café de Paris, is an emblematic establishment located in Nîmes, Gard department, Occitanie region. Founded in 1813, it is part of the city's urban history as a place of sociability and conviviality, typical of 19th-century cafes. Its architecture and interior design reflect the style of the era, with decorative elements and a remarkable wooden front.

The establishment was partially protected as historical monuments by an order of 2 November 2017. This decree completely covers the wooden front, the ground floor room with its decorated living room, as well as the two rooms on the first floor. These spaces, located at 46 Victor-Hugo Boulevard, testify to the historic importance of the site, both for its history and for its architecture.

In Nîmes, as in many French cities in the 19th century, cafes played a central role in social life. They served as meeting places for residents, travellers and traders, while being spaces for debate and relaxation. The Café Le Napoléon, with its bicentennial history, embodies this tradition and remains a symbol of local heritage.
