Calvaire located at the intersection of rue de la Gare and C.G.C 28 : inscription by order of 20 December 1945

Origin and history

The Lux Calvary is a historical monument located in the town of Lux, in the Côte-d Built during the second half of the 18th century, it is precisely at the intersection of Rue de la Gare and C.G.C. 28. This monument, typical of the religious art of this period, was inscribed under the title of Historical Monuments by decree of 20 December 1945, attesting to its heritage value.

The location of the calvary, close to traffic axes, suggests a role both spiritual and symbolic for the local community. At that time, calvaries often served as visual landmarks and places of devotion, marking the public space of a religious presence. Their settlement at the crossroads or village entrances also reflected a desire to anchor faith in the daily lives of the inhabitants.

Owned by the commune of Lux, this calvary illustrates the artistic and cultural heritage of Burgundy-Franche-Comté. Although available sources (Monumentum, Mérimée base) do not specify the details of its construction or its sponsors, its inscription in 1945 underlines its importance in the local heritage. The accuracy of its location is estimated as fair (note 5/10), indicating an approximate knowledge of its exact location.
