18th Century Calvary (Box AB 150): Registration by Order of 14 May 1925

Origin and history

The 18th-century Calvary of Ploumilliau is an emblematic monument located in the commune of Ploumilliau, Brittany. Originally, he was in the old cemetery surrounding the local church, before being moved to his current location on Croaf-Ogès Street. This calvary, typical of Breton religious art, reflects the traditions and devotion of the region at that time.

The Calvary was registered as historic monuments by order of 14 May 1925, thereby recognizing its heritage value. This status protects the monument and highlights its cultural and historical importance for the commune and the region. Today, there remains an architectural and spiritual testimony of the eighteenth century, accessible to the public.

The region of Brittany in the 18th century was marked by a strong religious and cultural identity. Calvary, often erected in cemeteries or near churches, served as places of prayer and assembly for local communities. These monuments played a central role in the social and spiritual life of the inhabitants, embodying both faith and local crafts.
