Door of entry: entry by order of 30 April 1946
Origin and history
The house Capelle is a civilian dwelling located in the city of Aurillac, in the Cantal department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Dating from the 15th century, it is distinguished by its medieval architecture, including its entrance door, which is the most remarkable element of the building. This door, in Gothic style, is finely molded and surmounted by a tympanum in braid, vestige of a decoration today disappeared, probably carved or adorned with windows.
The house is located at 20 rue Vermenouze, an artery in downtown Aurillac. Although little information remains about its detailed history, its door has been recognized for its heritage interest and protected accordingly. It was listed as a historical monument by an order of 30 April 1946, reflecting its architectural and historical value in the urban context of Aurillac.
In the 15th century, Aurillac was a dynamic city in the south of the Central Massif, marked by economic activity related to trade, crafts and agriculture. Bourgeois or notable houses, such as the Capelle House, often reflected the social status of their owners. Their architecture, combining defensive and decorative elements, illustrated both a desire for protection and a desire for social affirmation in an expanding urban context.
