Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-l'Olivier : inscription by order of 20 September 1946
Origin and history
The Notre-Dame-de-l'Olivier Chapel is a religious building located in Figanières, in the department of Var (region Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur). Dating from the 12th century, it is a typical example of the Provencal religious architecture of that time. Its registration as a Historic Monument by order of 20 September 1946 bears witness to its recognized heritage value.
The chapel is now owned by the commune of Figanières. Although available sources do not specify its current use, its protected status suggests active preservation. The location, noted as 'passable' (level 5/10), indicates moderate accessibility, with an approximate address at the place called 'Le Naou'.
The 12th century rural chapels in Provence often played a central role in community life, serving as places of worship, gathering and sometimes refuge. Their construction reflected local techniques, with materials such as limestone, and their interior decoration was generally sober, in accordance with the religious practices of the time.
