Origin and history
The house at 18 rue de Solferino in Compiègne (Oise) was a historical monument built in the 16th century. This building, typical of Renaissance civil architecture, had a facade and roof protected by an inscription order dated 10 April 1929. Its location in the city centre of Compiègne, a commune marked by its medieval and modern history, made it a local architectural witness.
The house was destroyed in 1944, probably in the context of bombings or fighting related to the Second World War. The remains or traces of this building have disappeared, but its inscription in the Merimée base and the Monumentum archives attest to its heritage importance. The street of Solferino, where it was located, bears the name of an emblematic battle of the Second Empire, reflecting the historic anchor of the city.
No information is available about the owners, architects or specific uses of this house prior to its destruction. Data are limited to partial protection (side and roof) and approximate location, reported as "passible" (level 5/10) in databases. Today, the site corresponds to a nearby address, 20 rue de Solferino, without visible traces of the old monument.
