Origin and history
The house at 6 Rue Haute-Voie in Dinan is a historical monument built in the 14th century. This building, typical of Breton medieval architecture, is distinguished by its facades and roofs, protected by an inscription order dated 4 December 1961. These elements, referenced under Cadastre B 803, testify to the heritage importance of the building in the urban landscape of Dinan.
Dinan, a medieval town of the Côtes-d-Armor in Brittany, was at that time a dynamic centre marked by commerce, crafts and a hierarchical social organization. Houses such as the Rue Haute-Voie were often used as housing for merchants, artisans or local notables. Their preservation makes it possible today to understand the lifestyles and construction techniques of this period, while stressing the role of bourgeois dwellings in the structuring of Breton cities in the Middle Ages.
