Porte et oriel : inscription by decree of 21 April 1934

Origin and history

The house at 6 rue du Couvent in Saar-Union (Bas-Rhin) is a 17th-century civil building. It is distinguished by its typical architecture of the time, including a (orial) housing originally suspended, later reinforced by a masonry base. A daisy statuette supports a slab aligned with the dressing room, while allegations are decorated with ironwork and mascarons. The richly carved entrance door features ionic pilasters and a lintel decorated with rinsels and foliage.

Inside, two stone columns frame the housing, and the ceiling of the main room is studded. The building was listed as historic monuments by order of 21 April 1934, specifically for its gate and oriel. These protected elements testify to the local craftsmanship and architectural influences of the Alsatian region in the seventeenth century.

The precise location of the house, confirmed by official sources (base Mérimée), is 6 rue du Couvent, in the municipality of Saar-Union, attached to the department of Bas-Rhin (region Grand Est). The building, although partially modified, retains outstanding architectural features for its time, reflecting the Alsatian built heritage.
