Facades and roof: inscription by decree of 21 April 1934

Origin and history

The house located on 1 rue des Tourneurs in Saar Union, in the Lower Rhine, is a historic monument registered since 1934. This building from the 3rd quarter of the 18th century has distinctive architecture, with a Oriel under a long panel spread over four levels and a hanger under a gable, asymmetrical to the facade. These architectural elements have been consolidated by support to preserve their integrity.

Originally built in 1624, as evidenced by the date engraved on the lintel of the cellar, the house underwent major transformations in 1764, date inscribed on the side door leading to the staircase turret. These developments reflect the evolution of architectural needs and styles between the 17th and 18th centuries. The facades and roof of the building have been protected by ministerial decree since April 21, 1934.

Located in the East, this house illustrates the Alsatian architectural heritage, marked by both French and Germanic influences. Its inscription among historical monuments underscores its importance in local and regional history, offering a material testimony of construction techniques and lifestyles of past eras.
