Origin and history
This bourgeois house, located at 5 rue Jean-Girard in Bourges, was built after the great fire of 1487 which ravaged part of the city. Its construction illustrates the post-disaster architectural renaissance, with a wood-pan structure typical of the region, organized on the cross of Saint Andrew. The fine columns supporting the consoles of the sandstones and the posts of the pinion bays testify to a refined craftsmanship for the time.
The building is distinguished by its double gable façade, an architectural element characteristic of bourgeois houses of the late Middle Ages in the Centre-Val de Loire. Classified as a Historical Monument by decree of 17 April 1931 for its facade (cadastre HV 183), this house embodies the medieval civil heritage of Bourges, marked by the reconstruction after the destructions of the 15th century. Its historic address, formerly 5 rue Édouard-Vaillant, reflects the city's urban evolution.
The location of the house, recorded with an average accuracy (5/10) in the databases, today corresponds to 5 rue Jean-Girard in the department of Cher. Although the practical information about his visit or current use (rent, guest rooms) is missing from the sources, his inscription as a Historical Monument makes him a protected witness to the urban history of Bourges, between the late Middle Ages and Renaissance.
