Origin and history
The house at 25 rue Mirebeau in Bourges is a civil building dating from the second half of the 15th century. This monument illustrates the urban architecture of the late Middle Ages in a then prosperous city, marked by its political and economic role as capital of the Duchy of Berry. The protection of its façade by order of 17 April 1931 bears witness to its heritage interest, although the available sources do not specify the details of its construction or its occupants.
At that time Bourges was a major administrative and religious centre, attracting artisans, merchants and nobles. Bourgeois houses, like this one, often reflected the social status of their owners, with wrought facades and quality materials. Their preservation now allows us to study the construction techniques and way of life of the urban elites of the nascent Renaissance.
